Seghill Legends No 13 Paul 'Fossy's Ball' Foster

On his day better than Shilton, Not his day (which were several) wouldn't get a game for Shultons. (Thats Proctor & Gamble to the younger FE6 fans) Paul 'Fossy' Foster seghill through & through started life as a tough tackling full back "Cruncher Foster was my nickname at school" he claims. Touted by clubs including Aston Villa Foster was tipped for great things. However the Lager & the women soon took presidence and the full back's high hopes were short lived. Nevertheless Fossy found perhaps greater fame and adulation, amongst many a seghill sunday morning footballer who attempted to grace the famous welfare turf. For Fossy donned the goalkeeper gloves and set about life between the sticks. "I remember many a sunday morning battle" he noted "I was the scurge of many a striker" he advised. However he was famed for the now legandary cry of "Fossy's balllllllllllll, ohhhhhhh s**t!!!!!!!!!!" this would indicate his attempt to catch the ball mid flight, often heading goalwards. Often finding the goal as well. For it was perhaps some 15 years later that it was realised that Fossy had a small problem running backwards and catching the ball, a must for a goalkeeper some say. After a decade and a half between the hallowed posts, (fending off many a willing party for the no 1 jersey) Fossy retired to life in Seaton Delaval, passing on goalkeeping tips to the Seaton Terrace youth of today. Seghill goalkeeping has never being quite the same since his departure, even if there have being an increase in clean sheets since he hung up the gloves! Here we see Fossy in fine form with the scores poised evenly at 0-0.
